Welcome to all of our PocketLab fans in Australia!
PocketLab has shipped to 10's of thousands of customers in more than 52 countries around the world. Even though the PocketLab team is located in San Jose, California, which is pretty much on the other side of the world, Australia is one of our largest international regions. We were pleasantly surprised when orders started coming in from down under, and we still can't help but smiling every time we print out a shipping label with an 'AU' country code at the bottom.
If you're from Australia, here are some answers to questions you may have about ordering a PocketLab:
How can I place an order? For small orders our website store (www.thepocketlab.com/store) is the easiest way to place an order. You can place an order yourself, and we fulfill international orders within 2 business days. Our website takes international credit cards, and also PayPal. Prices are in US dollars. If you have any other questions before ordering, please contact us via email, and we will respond promptly.
I have a some questions about what to order, can you send me a quotation? Yes, we are happy to do this - please fill out a quotation request form, and we will send you an official quote within 2 business days. If you have additional questions before ordering, you can contact us via email and we will respond right away.
Do you have an affordable way to ship to Australia? Yes! We take advantage of an international shipping treaty called ePacket - the packages go from our US Post Office to your Australia Post. This is designed for small packages with a value limited to $400. It cost $10US to ship ePacket to Australia, and about 10-14 business days.
What about shipping larger orders? We ship larger orders through the Post Office as well. The price depends on the size and value of the package. For a class set of PocketLabs the shipping cost can be approximately $40-60USD - contact us and we will send you a quote.
How long does it take to ship to Australia? The US Post Office quotes about 10-14 business days. If you need something faster, email us. However, faster is going to be much more expensive! In our experience, the best cost/speed option is with the US Post office: Priority Mail International. However, it can be $60 US or more and the fastest is 5 business days.
Is there tracking for shipments? Yes, there is, but it is limited - not what you may be used to with a service like FedEx. The tracking tells when the package leaves the US, and when it arrives in the Australia Post, and when it is delivered.
What about tariffs? We cannot avoid tariffs internationally (and please don't ask us to mark your package as a 'gift' to avoid tariffs). The Australia Post will either deliver the package or deliver you a note to pick it up at your nearest post office - at that point, they will charge tariffs and and any local fees. Sorry we can't avoid this, and we don't know exactly the charges region by region.
Do you take Purchase Orders from schools and businesses? Yes! You can send a purchase order directly to our email. For International Purchase Orders, we request payment by bank wire transfer before shipping. We charge a $20 US fee for wire transfers (this is a bank fee we don't have control over).
Do you have a distributor in Australia? No, not yet. Contact us if you are a distributor or if you have one you'd like us to be part of.
How do you support customers in Australia? We are happy to support you! Fortunately we speak roughly the same language, so it's easy to contact us with questions. We answer all emails within 24 hours. All of our curriculum, user guides, and videos are in English, and free to download. We are happy to send replacement devices or parts to Australia, we use the same ePacket shipping method.
Will PocketLab help me discover if water drains in the opposite directions between the northern and southern hemispheres? Perhaps yes. You can use the gyroscope for this test and let us know what you find!
