The original PocketLab, and PocketLab Voyager and PocketLab Weather need Bluetooth Low Energy to connect to a device. Bluetooth Low Energy is often abbreviated BLE, and sometimes called Bluetooth 4.0 (or later).
Bluetooth Low Energy was introduced widely in 2010, and most new computers started supporting it as they were updated. As of today, about 90% of new devices support this standard.
However, if you have a device that was manufactured several years ago, it may not support Bluetooth Low Energy.
If you are using a Mac laptop or desktop computer, here is how to check. The information about Bluetooth is found in the Apple menu (see pictures), when you click on 'About This Mac'.
In the next window click on "System Report".
In the System Report window, you'll see 'Bluetooth' in the list on the left - click this and hopefully you will see 'Bluetooth Low Energy Supported'.
If all these are correct, your Mac supports BLE, and should pair with a PocketLab device. The steps to open the app and pair are:
1. Make sure you are using a Google Chrome browser - it is good to update to the latest version.
2. Click this link: www.thepocketlab.com/app, and you should see the PocketLab connect screen.
