Using barometric pressure to teach about particle motion and states of matter

In a few simple experiments, temperature can be related to the the kinetic energy of particles inside a substance, or the the transfer of thermal energy from one object to another through kinetic energy in order to teach NGSS MS-PS1-4. In doing these experiments, students can gain an understanding of how particle motion is affected when thermal energy is added or removed. This can also be related to the changes of state of a substance as a solid, liquid, or gas.

PocketLab Voyager Total Lunar Eclipse Light Intensity Data

I was fortunate enough to have a perfectly clear sky in DeKalb, Illinois to capture light intensity data for the January 20-21, 2019 total lunar eclipse.  This opportunity to collect light intensity data of the eclipse using PocketLab Voyager was a must do!  See Figure 1.

Beta version of the PocketLab Web App available now

The PocketLab Web App is now available on Windows 10 devices as a beta version. The PocketLab Web App connects to PocketLab Voyager and Weather through a Chrome web browser. To connect your PocketLab Voyager or Weather follow the steps below.

The CloudLab Model

CloudLab Introduction

The purpose of this article is to provide the reader with an understanding of the CloudLab model for performing experiments with PocketLab sensors.  Teachers can set up accounts and populate those accounts with their students.  CloudLab is an online foundation allowing students to perform, analyze, document and save PocketLab lab reports.  The figure below shows the basic hierarchical structure of CloudLab.

Phyphox App Can Connect with PocketLab Voyager for Interesting New Experiments and Use Cases

The public phyphox beta for connecting Bluetooth Low Energy devices to their data logging app was released this month. A collection of ten experiments, designed by PocketLab superuser Dr. Richard Born, connects PocketLab Voyager with the phyphox app for a number of exciting new use cases, including connecting two Voyagers at once and displaying both data sets simultaneously.
