From Glacier to Classroom: Miles O’Brien’s Antarctic Science Mission LIVE
A Free Virtual Field Trip
Tuesday, February 10, 2026
10am - 11:30am Mountain Time
Join PBS’s Miles O’Brien and an international team of scientists LIVE on a scientific mission to the edge of the world… seeking solutions. In this free virtual field trip, your grades 6–12 students will connect live with researchers aboard the RV Araon as they travel home from Thwaites Glacier in West Antarctica, sharing what they’ve just discovered and how their work can help communities adapt to a changing climate.
During this event, students will:
-
See how scientists study the ice–ocean boundary using ships, sensors, and cutting-edge technology
-
Explore innovative ideas—like undersea “sea curtains”—designed to slow ice loss and protect coastlines
-
Hear first-hand from glaciologists, oceanographers, and engineers about the questions that guide their research
-
Learn how science, engineering, and collaboration can lead to real-world climate solutions
A field trip student worksheet will be provided to help with engagement and reinforce concepts while they watch along to the live broadcast.
This event is free and will be recorded and emailed to everyone who registers, so you can participate live or watch on your own schedule.
