Deanne Bell is an engineer, television host, and CEO of Future Engineers. She founded Future Engineers in 2014 to connect inspiring media and technology with students. Her company has a legacy of developing award-winning education competitions and programs for clients, including NASA. As executive producer and co-star of “Axi & D,” Deanne explains everyday science concepts to Axi, her curious axolotl friend. She earned her BS in mechanical engineering from Washington University in St. Louis and is the 2019 Young Alumni Award recipient from its McKelvey School of Engineering. Her TV hosting credits include CNBC, ESPN, DSC, Nat Geo, and PBS.

Axi is no ordinary axolotl—he’s a born explorer with a passion for science and a serious love for pizza and ice cream! Axi has spent his life observing the fascinating world around him and loves to ask questions. With the curiosity and energy of a student, he’s always on the lookout for fun, new discoveries. From learning how electricity works to exploring the wonders of gravity and magnetism, his natural ability to investigate and explore makes him the perfect science buddy for young learners. Axi’s playful spirit and adventurous nature make science feel like one big, exciting adventure!

Robby Douthitt | Director of Education, PocketLab
Robert Douthitt is the Director of Education and a Product Manager at PocketLab. He taught secondary math and science in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Chicago, Illinois for six years. He received a Master’s degree in Education Leadership and Policy from Marquette University and a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, also from Marquette University. During Robert’s work in education, he served as a high school science department chair and a district lead in professional development for other science teachers.
