What You’ll Learn

Join us for this interactive webinar where you'll learn how to use PhET’s free, research-based interactive simulations to make abstract science concepts more tangible and engaging, discover how to enhance student experiments using real-time data from PocketLab sensors, and gain practical strategies for integrating both tools into your curriculum. The session features Linda Stegemann from PhET Interactive Simulations and David Madden, a teacher in Tallahassee Florida. They will provide hands-on teaching ideas, ways to boost student interactivity, and a fresh approach to help reinforce complex science concepts.

David Madden | Teacher

David Madden is a science educator in his 27th year of teaching. He currently teaches AP Biology and general biology, and over the years has also taught AP Environmental Science, Physics, Marine Biology, and Integrated Science (biology, chemistry, and physics). Beyond the classroom, David has coached basketball, volleyball, tennis, and track. He has taught in Chicago and Seattle and now lives in Northwest Florida with his family.

David is a life-long learner and passionate about giving students access to deep, meaningful science experiences. He has led student expeditions to the Peruvian Amazon, was named a NOAA Teacher at Sea in 2019, and was honored as the Big Bend Leon Association of Science Teachers (BLAST) Teacher of the Year in 2020. He has a BS in biology at University of Notre Dame, Masters in Education at University of Notre Dame, Masters in Biomimicry at Arizona State University.

To further engage students and the public with the beauty and complexity of science, he created Madden Science, a YouTube channel devoted to exploring biology, biomimicry, and the physics of the natural world. Videography is more than a teaching tool—it’s a joyful, creative outlet that helps David refine ideas, stay inspired, and share the wonders of science with a wider audience.
